These are expensive & common people are reluctant to go there & looking for cheaper options, where they can enjoy coffee, cold drinks & snacks without burning a hole in their pockets. 1 ‘Indian Coffee House’ situated at ‘Mohan Singh Place’ ‘Baba Kharak Singh Marg’, near ‘Hanuman Mandir’. Established in 1957 as a cooperative society,it was previously located at the place where ‘Palika Bazaar’ stands today. In 60s & 70s, it was a hub of political activity with all the big names meeting to discuss the various issues. The menu consists of variety of coffee, beverages, South Indian snacks, egg, even Mutton & Chicken dishes.The cheapest item is plain coffee @ Rs 35 & the costliest is ‘Mutton Dosa’@ Rs 110.00. No frills place, always full with customers, next time, when in CP, please pay a visit.
2 ‘Cottage Cafe’ By ‘Smoothie Valley’, located at ‘Cottage Emporium’, Janpath, phone 9999688355. The place has huge variety of ‘Smoothies’ in different flavors, they offer 3 sizes as of small, medium & large. They serve salads, coffee, burgers, sandwiches etc, the eatery is always swarming with customers, the food, the ambiance, the service is always top notch. Meal for 2 is just for Rs 575.
3 ‘Caara Cafe’, located at 17, Kasturba Gandhi Marg, British Council, CP, phone 9810204427. Its a Non vegetarians Paradise but also has some yummy veg stuff. The menu has less then 30 items but we found their ‘Pizza Foccacia’ @ Rs 110 as outstanding, those with sweet tooth might as well go for ‘Cinnamon Role’ @ Rs 90, simply heavenly. The chicken lovers should go for ‘Grilled Chicken Panini’ @ Rs 250. The cost for food for 2 is around Rs 550.00.
4 ‘Cha Bar’, located at N 81 Barakhamba Road, Block N, CP, phone 9910994865. From Pastries, Pizza, Coffee of all flavors, Tea of scores of variety, starters to main course ,they serve all. its a book lovers paradise, where you can sit for hours with your laptop & order some snacks. Favorite with foreigners as the food is mostly continental, its a place to be seen it, without burning a hole in your pocket.
5 ‘The Obroma’, this is an unusual Greek name, meaning ‘Food of Gods’. The Location is D 28, Connaught Place, phone 8800018152, its a basically meant for snacks & their USP is the pastries, cakes, Breakfast, Sandwiches etc. Not a large place but very well set up & full of patrons always. The Non vegetarians can try BBQ chicken Sandwich @ Rs 205 & the Vegans can head for Cheese Chilly Toast @ Rs 240. For Desert, you may go for lemon tart cake, simply awesome. The food for 2 will cost around Rs 650 Next time, when you are in Delhi, near CP, you know where to head for a quick & yummy, pocket friendly bite.
